Overview

Jan M. Butler is an Ohio State Bar Association Certified Paralegal at McCarthy Lebit and has over 30 years of experience as a Trust & Estate and Estate Planning paralegal. Her specialization focuses on estate and trust administration, estate taxes, and wealth transfer.

She is regularly involved in the preparation of all probate court documents, valuation of estate assets, transfer of assets to beneficiaries, federal estate tax returns, as well as trust and estate income tax returns and gift tax returns. Jan also spends considerable time planning estate and trust distributions for beneficiaries to gain the best tax benefits.  She assists with federal estate tax audits and tax appeals.  She is very detailed oriented and has orchestrated many estate house cleanouts, estate sales, and real estate sales.

Additionally, Jan has extensive experience with working with farm owners, including the valuation of land, lease agreements, and conservation easements. She also manages a working family farm.

Jan received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland in College Park. She was a member of the inaugural class of OSBA certified paralegals in the State of Ohio. She has also attended the American Bankers Association Trust School. In 2018, she co-authored the article “Aretha Franklin Should have Stopped to “Think” About a Will.” She has also been asked to speak to various ladies’ groups on the importance of understanding estate administration.

In her spare time, she enjoys hiking and is currently on a quest to visit many of the National Parks. She also blends her own wines under her label Queen Bee Wines.
