Ohio Department of Taxation to Send Individual Income Tax Failure Notices

From the Ohio Department of Taxation:

“Starting October 31, 2019 the Ohio Department of Taxation will begin sending Individual Income Tax Failure notices to certain taxpayers advising them that an Ohio Form IT 1040 has not been received. The notices are based on information provided by the IRS that a federal income tax return was filed using an Ohio address. The taxpayer is, therefore, presumed to be an Ohio resident who was required to file an Ohio Form IT 1040. Instructions are provided for taxpayers to resolve the matter. The Department emphasizes that taxpayers must respond within 21 days to avoid further collection activities that may result in substantial interest and penalties.”
