PARMA, Ohio— State Rep. Nicholas J. Celebrezze (D-Parma) today announced he filed petitions for re-election to the Ohio House of Representatives. Celebrezze, the assistant Democratic leader in the House, is seeking his third full term serving citizens of Ohio’s 15th House district.
“I believe in better jobs and brighter futures for the people of the 15th district and for the people of our state,” said Celebrezze. “My service in the House has allowed me to fight for policies that increase opportunities for all Ohioans to have a higher quality of life, and I look forward to continuing that fight on behalf of the people I am honored to call friends and neighbors.”
Celebrezze, an attorney with the law firm of McCarthy, Lebit, Crystal, & Liffman, has served the people of Cuyahoga County as a probation officer, assistant county prosecutor, and Parma City Councilman. He was appointed to the House in 2012 and subsequently won reelection to the House in 2012 and 2014. He is currently the second-highest ranking Democratic member in the House.
“My experience as assistant leader in the House has afforded me the opportunity to stand up for working people and stronger families at every turn, and to steer the discussion at the statehouse toward the needs of our district and state,” said Celebrezze. “People deserve to live in a state that promotes fairness and opportunity through policies that reflect our belief in strong schools, robust communities and good-paying jobs that let people plan for their future.”
Celebrezze serves on the Judiciary Committee, Sunset Review Committee, and the powerful Rules & Reference Committee, a panel that assigns legislation to committees and decides which bills receive final consideration by the full House. This year, he has introduced legislation to increase access to healthcare, strengthen local communities, and protect companion animals. His name is attached to some 60 bipartisan bills that address issues like, job creation, opiate addiction, local infrastructure improvements, community based learning, and child safety. Earlier this year he was appointed as a Commissioner on the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood.
Celebrezze is a graduate of the University of Akron, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree with Honors from the Bliss Institute of American Politics. He holds a Juris Doctorate from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law.
An active member of the community, Celebrezze is a member of the Parma Bar Association, the Ohio Bar Association, the North East Ohio City Council Association, the Justinian Forum, and served as Chairman of Partizan Ohio Sports Club, as well as being the official color commentator for local television high school soccer matches for PAC-TV.
Celebrezze’s wife, Niki, is a physician and they live in Parma with their children, Izabella and Luka.
