As recently released by the Ohio Department of Taxation, “Ohio will have a sales tax holiday from Friday, August 4, 2017 at 12:00 a.m. to Sunday, August 6, 2017 at 11:59 p.m.
During the holiday, the following items are exempt from sales and use tax:
- An item of clothing priced at $75 or less;
- An item of school supplies priced at $20 or less; and
- An item of school instructional material priced at $20 or less.
Items used in a trade or business are not exempt under the sales tax holiday.”
There is no limit on the purchase quantity and the exemption applies to items bought in-store and online, as well as via mail, email and telephone. Orders must be placed, paid, accepted and shipped during the sales tax holiday to be eligible, though delivery may occur at a later date. Backordered items processed after the sales tax holiday do not qualify for the exemption.
