Trial attorneys David Schaefer and Christian Patno have again been recognized by their peers as being among this year's Top 100 Super Lawyers within the state of Ohio as well as the Top 50 of the Cleveland, Ohio area.
Christian Patno has once again been rated AV, the preeminent rating, indicating the highest level of legal ability and ethics, by Martindale-Hubbell. This rating is solely based upon review by Chris’ legal peers in the Bar and Judiciary.

The Cleveland Bar Foundation, the Cleveland Bar Association's related charitable arm and partner in serving the legal profession and the community, directly supports the programs that are making a difference in the lives of people in the community-providing pro bono representation to the indigent and homeless; public education about the law, legal rights and responsibilities and mentors to children in the Cleveland Municipal Schools through law-related citizenship education. Ahern's term as a Trustee is for two years.

CASE UPDATE
In October 2008, Christian R. Patno successfully resolved an extremely complex and hotly-contested failure to vaccinate case on behalf of his clients for 7.5 million dollars. This result is not only the largest of its kind in the state of Ohio, but is also the largest known settlement for this type of failure to vaccinate matter in the entire United States. This type of claim is discussed more fully in Chris’ website:www.failuretovaccinate.com. Most importantly, this litigation and issues raised by Chris has resulted in modification of procedures to prevent similar future occurrences.
This record failure to vaccinate result comes on the heels of two other results Chris has obtained at or above 1 million dollars on behalf of his clients for the first 10 months of 2008. In total, Chris has obtained in excess of $10,400,000 on behalf of his clients so far in 2008. These results are even more impressive when one considers the severe limits and devastation tort reform legislation has had on other practices similar to Chris’ in Ohio.
Christian Patno recently settled a substantial case against a product manufacturer that was being litigated in Federal Court and involved the collapse of a car hood upon a woman’s arm. The specific claim involved the catastrophic failure of gas springs. Multiple engineering, safety and medical expert witnesses were involved.
Chris has recently filed and is currently litigating a Yamaha Rhino roll-over case in Stark County, Ohio. Investigation has revealed Yamaha was aware of the roll-over danger and injury to legs of the occupants but made no preventative modifications or changes until after Chris’ client was severely injured.
Chris has recently resolved one ghost surgery medical malpractice matter where the surgeon of record was not the surgeon in the operating room at the time of the medical error. However, Chris still has a second ghost surgery case which is headed to trial in early 2009. In the pending matter, the surgeon of record hired to do the surgery and who billed for the surgery alleges under oath he was not competent to do the surgery and supposedly delegated the surgery to a surgeon the patient had previously interviewed and turned down.
Chris has also recently sued McDonalds involving serious injury to a small child’s finger caught in the hinge of a self-closing door. Although McDonalds uses finger shields in the doors of its European restaurants to protect against such known danger, in the United States it has not provided the same protection to its customers. This danger is especially disconcerting in restaurants where McDonalds entices the presence of very small children with indoor playgrounds. Through litigating this case, Chris hopes to change the safety practices of McDonalds here in the United States and obtain the same level of protection here for children as in its European restaurants.
