Ellen S. Simon is of counsel at McCarthy, Lebit, Crystal & Liffman Co., L.P.A. Ms. Simon has dedicated her practice to employment law and has been praised for her work on landmark employment discrimination cases on both the state and federal level. She is recognized as one of the leading lawyers in the United States for employment and civil rights cases, has been listed as one of the nation's leading litigators by National Law Journal, and since 2002, has been consistently selected by her peers to be included in the annual publication, The Best Lawyers in America. Ms. Simon provides a wealth of knowledge as a legal analyst, discussing high-profile civil cases, employment discrimination and women's issues, is often quoted in local and national news media and is a regular guest on television and radio including appearances on Court TV. She currently authors the Employee Rights Post, a popular legal blog about employment and civil rights.
Ms. Simon has been profiled in The American Lawyer for her successful jury verdict in the first discrimination case of its kind, on behalf of an AIDS patient who was refused admission to a hospital. She was later featured in Lawyers Weekly, U.S.A. for her verdict in Ohio's first same-sex sexual harassment trial. Ms. Simon also received regional and national attention for winning a record $30.7 million dollar verdict in an age discrimination case-the largest of its kind in U.S. history. The Ohio Law Journal highlighted Ms. Simon for her success as the first female trial lawyer to win a million-dollar verdict in Ohio and listed her as one of Ohio's top women litigators.
In addition to her notable career, Ms. Simon served as a law clerk to the honorable Judge Ann Aldrich, United States District Court, for the Northern District of Ohio and as an adjunct professor of employment law at the Cleveland-Marshall School of Law at Cleveland State University. Ms. Simon is an experienced and popular orator, having presented dozens of legal seminars to professional organizations, including the American Association for Justice, the National Employment Lawyers Association, the Ohio Academy of Trial Lawyers and the Cleveland, Federal and Ohio State Bar Associations. Her legal opinions are included in a number of prestigious legal journals and other publications, including The National Law Journal, The Wall Street Journal and Lawyers Weekly, U.S.A. She also is a frequent contributor to Trial Magazine.
Recognized for her community service, Ms. Simon has been a member of and active in numerous professional organizations. She is Past-President of the Cleveland Chapter-American Civil Liberties Union, and Past-Chair of the Employment Rights Section of the American Association for Justice. Ms. Simon is also a Fellow of the International Society of Barristers and the American Board of Trial Advocates.
